Camper Van Beethoven is an alternative rock band that formed in Redlands, CA in 1983 before relocating to Santa Cruz, CA and rising to fame with its diverse mixture of pop, punk rock, country, ska and folk music. The band's signature sound, violin-drenched melodies on top of experimental pop music, paired with its do-it-yourself ethic influenced the forthcoming indie rock movement of the 1990s and 2000s. Camper Van Beethoven released its debut album Telephone Free Landslide Victory, in 1985 and dropped four more full-length studio records before disbanding in 1990. Nearly a decade later in 1999, the band reformed and got straight to work on new material that would culminate in 2002's Tusk. With the same diversity it started off with and the addition of Eastern European and Southeast Asian influences, the band dropped its eight studio album La Costa Perdida, in 2013.
