Guadalcanal Diary (years active: 1981-1989, 1997-2000, 2011) was an alternative jangle pop band from Marietta, Georgia that earned a substantial cult following throughout most of the 1980s. Mixing absurd punk humor with melancholic and spiritual themes, Guadalcanal Diary's allure was in its irreverence and the often ironically upbeat music that sometimes clashes with the tone of its lyrics. The band released several albums throughout the 1980s and disbanded at the end of the decade, only to reunite twice later on without releasing any new material.
