Born and raised in Kentucky, Daniel Martin Moore was equally influenced by old Southern gospel and Appalachian folk. After signing to Seattle's Sub Pop label, he released his first album Stray Age, which placed an emphasis on his Appalachian influences, part of its proceeds benefiting the fight against the environmentally harmful and dangerous coal mining that occurs in Moore's native state. His second release In the Cool of the Day leaned more toward his Christian upbringing and love for gospel, as it's comprised of updated and reworked versions of many classic Southern gospel songs. No matter which style Moore chooses to showcase at the forefront of his music, the singer/songwriter deftly fuses his influences into his own breed of delicate folk-pop with underlying Christian themes.
