Dickey Betts is a guitarist and singer/songwriter from West Palm Beach, Florida, who is probably best known as one of the two original guitarists of the seminal, jam-influenced Southern rock act The Allman Brothers Band. Raised in a family that had strong musical proclivities toward bluegrass, country and western swing, Betts began playing the ukulele at age five, and as his hands grew, he moved onto the guitar, mandolin and banjo. Going on to play in a number of rock bands on the Florida circuit, Betts would eventually join The Allman Brothers in 1969 and help pioneer a unique sound with his melodic twin guitar harmonies, along with guitar prodigy Duane Allman. During his time in the group, Betts would go on to release several solo albums, starting with his 1974 debut LP, Highway Call. But after being kicked out of the band in 2000 due to a spiraling drug and alcohol dependency, Betts has since dedicated all his attention and time to solo endeavors.
