Emilie Autumn is a Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter and violinist who draws inspiration from the literature, theater and history of the Victorian era. With a sound she describes as "Victoriandustrial," she creates an electro and classical-tinged brand of dark cabaret with her all-female backing band, The Bloody Crumpets. Often employing themes surrounding mental health, particularly her own experiences with bipolar disorder, she has been painting her music with unfiltered personal narratives since her debut album Enchant, in 2003. Shortly after touring the album, she suffered a mental breakdown and was admitted into a psychiatric ward where she was completely cut off from contact with the outside world. Her time in the facility inspired her 2010 autobiographical novel, The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls, as well as her subsequent studio albums, including 2006's Opheliac and 2012's Fight Like a Girl.
