Since he emerged out of Iowa in the 1980s, comedian Jake Johannsen has managed to become one of the more accomplished stand-up comedians of his generation. After spending three years at Iowa State University, first majoring in veterinary medecine and then chemical engineering, he moved to San Francisco to pursue a career as a comedian and soon made his debut at the ledgendary Bay Area establishment Cobb's Comedy Club. By 1986 he had won the San Francisco International Comedy Competetion and in the early 1990s he started in his own HBO comedy special, This'll Take About An Hour To Talk About. The show helped provide Johannsen with some national attention and by 1994 he was nominated for "Best Male Stand-Up Comedian" for the American Comedy Awards. Never one to shy away from a mic and a stage, Johannsen has kept a rigerous touring schedule ever since his formative years on the stand-up circuit.
