Blockfl├╢te des Todes is the moniker of German singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Matthias Schrei. Proficient in a vast spectrum of instruments, including guitar, piano, recorder, flute, trumpet, drums and organ, he began his career as a funeral and church organist and soon craved a more artistic path. He adopted the name Blockfl├╢te des Todes and began writing his own music. He released the song "Happy Birthday Jesus" in 2009 and earned an unprecedented amount of radio play. He released his official debut album, If looks could flutes, with Wannsee Records in 2010 and has since continued to craft poignant songs on records like 2015's Fifty Shades of Earl Grey.
