After two English musicians witnessed a 1996 solar eclipse in India, they decided to try and recreate the experience they saw in sonic form. The resulting creation was a 20 minute long song called "...And the Day Turned into Night," a track that later appeared on the duo's debut 1998 album. The two musicians decided to name their musical endeavors Shpongle--which is not a dictionary recognized word, but a term the duo uses to refer to a "feeling of positive euphoric emotions." The music that Shpongle creates blends forward-thinking psychedelic with ambient trance and more exotic world music to create a unique style. More often than not, a live Shpongle show consists of electronic producer Simon Posford constructing songs, but occasionally also includes organic live instrumentals blended with electronic production.
