Throughout the 1990s, the New York-based rap group Company Flow helped build and bolster the independent hip-hop scene that would eventually grow into widespread popularity with mainstream masses. Formed in 1992, by two individuals (El-P and Mr. Len) with a deep seeded appreciation for hip-hop and its social impact, the group would eventually become a trio to fill out its sound. Though the East Coast rap outfit has never achieved much radio airplay or major commercial success, its role as one of the forefathers of the alternative hip-hop scene is still recognized today.
