London-Based hip-hop artist Corynne Elliot creates music under the moniker Speech Debelle. Known as a socially and politically aware artist, Speech Debelle is involved in various organizations dedicated to the increased rights and aid for people living in poverty. She composed her debut album Speech Therapy, released in 2009, with live instruments, further setting herself apart from other rappers who typically favor beats created by drum machines and samples. Labeled one of the biggest genre-bending artists to emerge out of the UK, Speech Debelle dropped her sophomore album Freedom of Speech in 2012 with the same brand of fiery and honest lyrics that made her debut effort such a powerful release.
