Hellhammer was a pioneering extreme metal band formed in Switzerland in 1982. This influential trio, consisting of Tom Gabriel Fischer (also known as Tom Warrior) on vocals and guitar, Martin Eric Ain on bass, and Bruce Day on drums, played a major role in shaping the development of black and extreme metal genres. With their raw and aggressive sound, Hellhammer combined elements of punk, thrash, and early black Metal, creating a notoriously dark and chaotic atmosphere in their music. Their 1984 EP, "Apocalyptic Raids," is considered a landmark release in the black metal and death metal scenes, influencing countless bands to come. Hellhammer's primal and grim style set the stage for Fischer's later band, Celtic Frost, which further pushed the boundaries of extreme music. The band dissolved in 1984, but their legacy remains undeniable, inspiring generations of musicians with their unrelenting intensity, macabre aesthetics, and uncompromising approach to metal.
