The Records was a power pop/rock band from the UK. The band was formed in 1978 by drummer Will Brich and guitarist John Whicks, who were band mates in the group The Kursaal Flyers. The two musicians began writing songs together, and when The Kursaal Flyers broke up, they formed The Records with lead guitarist Brian Alterman, later replaced by Huw Gower, and bassist Phil Brown. The Records were heavily influenced by The Beatles and the British Invasion as well as by American power pop groups such as Badfinger. Virgin Records signed the quartet and released the band's 1978 debut single and most widely known song, "Starry Eyes." After a couple of internationally successful albums, including the 1979 US released self-titled album, The Records fell into a downward spiral of lineup, managing, and production changes, causing its inevitable break up after an unsuccessful final album.
