Leon Eric Brooks III is a country music singer/songwriter from Louisiana who operates under the alias Kix Brooks. After relocating to Nashville to pursue a career in music, Brooks became a staff writer for Tree Publishing and recorded his first single "Baby, When Your Heart Breaks Down," in 1983. The song failed to attract attention, but he pushed further with his self-titled debut album that he released in 1989. The following year, Brooks teamed up with fellow country musician Ronnie Dunn to create the acclaimed duo, Brooks & Dunn. Between the years 1991 and 2010, the pair recorded ten studio albums and took home the Academy of Country Music award for Top Vocal Duo over a dozen times. Brooks took part in a farewell tour for Brooks & Dunn that culminated in 2010.
