When reggae first started to be imported not just to the West Indies but to the rest of the world in the late 60s and early 70s, the genre's fresh sound was responsible for many people becoming interested in a new style of music that was unlike most popular music created at the time. Over the decades, though, the genre has become synonymous with over indulgence of marijuana and lazy island life. The genre became a breeding ground for musically inclined stoners who were afraid to push the musical style into new, exciting territories. Luckily, Rootz Underground came along to straighten out reggae and breathe life into its slightly decrepit soul. Formed in 2000, Rootz Underground puts a modern spin on reggae and by incorporating sharp production, updated vocal patterns and intricate rhythm arrangements, the group has managed to do things to the style of music that people initially thought was inconceivable.
