Formed in 2009 by heartthrob actor Ryan Gosling and his friend Zach Shields, Dead Man's Bones was originally supposed to be a ghost themed musical starring the Silverlake Children's Conservatory Choir. The act instead morphed into a full length album that was put out by the record label Anti- and was met with much surprise and success. Though the group does have a kitschy value, the quality of its doo-wop and 60s girl group influenced music is impeccable. The group's live performances also gained notoriety due to ghost themed set designs, flawless sound quality and the children's zombie celebrity costumes, including Billy the Kid, Marie Antoinette, Charlie Chaplin and Julia Child.
