As the intimidating lead singer of the Southern California-based hardcore punk band Black Flag, Henry Rollins cast an imposing shadow as a vocalist who was unafraid to speak his mind and treat live performances as an excuse to channel the manic powers stirring within his soul. Though Rollins quit the band in 1986, he has managed to continue on with solo endeavors - most notably with his spoken word work. Reading original pieces into a microphone from a notebook might sound like a strange transition from a hardcore vocalist, but Rollins has been able to surprisingly pull it off with relative success and critical acclaim.
