Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott is a hip-hop artist from Brooklyn, New York who creates music under the moniker Joey Bada$$. Shortly after releasing a mixtape with his hip-hop collective Pro Era in 2012, he dropped his debut solo effort, 1999, capturing the attention of New York's underground scene as well as mainstream media sources at the young age of 17. Despite rumors that he was signing with various major labels, including Jay Z's coveted imprint Roc Nation, he continued to release solo material as well as Pro Era mixtapes as an independent artist. Joey Bada$$ would go on to tour with reigning hip-hop royalty such as A$AP Rocky and Wiz Khalifa before releasing his debut studio album, B4.da.$$, in 2013.
