Laura Mvula is a British soul singer from Birmingham whose first introduction to music was learning how to sing along to a Capella girl groups with her aunt. With a deep-rooted connection and affinity for music, Mvula would go on to study at the Birmingham Conservatoire, eventually receiving a degree in composition. After graduating, Mvula worked as a teacher at a secondary school in Birmingham, but her love of music was never squelched and she would frequently write and record songs in her spare time. Upon sending out her demos to record companies and receiving favorable reception, Mvula signed to RCA and released her debut EP, She, in 2012 to favorable critical praise.
