Owned by powerhouses of the English Premier League - Manchester City, New York City FC looks to establish the same kind of dominance on the MLS. Founded in 2013, when the team played its first league game in, it became the 20th overall expansion of the league. Impressively, the team finished eighth in its debut season, with former Spanish World Cup-winner David Villa wearing the armband of the team. Over the next few seasons, NCFC would go on to show just how dominating they can be. With legendary former French player and world cup winner - Patrick Viera at the helm, NCFC would make its way to the top of the league. Despite Viera's departure in 2019, the club continues to be one of the most powerful forces in the league.
