Listening to the Norwegian experimental duo Deaf Center is the sonic equivalent of reading a Jules Verne novel: you feel like you're exploring a world you know nothing about and the deeper you delve into this chasm, the more rewarding the experience is. When the two musicians who comprise Deaf Center started on their musical endeavors, they carried around professional-level recorders and captured the sounds of anything and everything that caught their fancy; this included change machines, broken machines, car breaks and other non-instrumental sound creators. The result was extremely interesting and the songs that Deaf Center pieced together molded epic soundscapes that inspire feelings of nostalgia, yearning and claustrophobia in the minds of listeners. The duo has been crafting lush almost avant-garde tunes since 2005 and while some people might suspect that a group like Deaf Center, with its highly original sound, would go on to receive throngs of fans and critical accolades, the group has remained somewhat of an underground sensation.
