New York boy-girl duo Minks existed in relative obscurity until reps from the Captured Tracks label heard one of the group's tracks: a hazy garage piece with mumbled Robert Smith-like vocals called "Funeral Song." The label agreed to release this track as a 7" single, which was met with positive press from many respected music journals. While not every song the band has subsequently released follows this formula, ranging from the more lo-fi to the more shoegaze, Minks always maintains an undertone of melancholy that somehow ties each track on its debut eponymous album together.
