Coming from an impressive family musical lineage, including grandparents who once sung for Benny Goodman and penning classic Christmas tunes like "The Little Drummer Boy," it seems almost predetermined that Laura Stevenson would grow up to be a musician. Starting by messing around with pianos and guitars as a kid, Stevenson joined the New York punk rock band, Bomb the Music Industry!, in her early 20s. Though she still plays keyboard for BMI!, Stevenson began to branch off into a folk rock solo career in the late 00s, when she pieced together a band that came to be known as Laura Stevenson & the Cans. The songs are mostly in a quieter vein, relying on Stevenson's tender vocals and acoustic guitar playing. But the band isn't afraid the let loose a bit from time to time.
