Comprised of just guitar and drums, Shellshag is a noise punk band based out of Brooklyn. The duo began its career in the 1990s in the Mission District of San Francisco, where it cohabited with indie rock groups like the Dandy Warhols and the Brian Jonestown Massacre. Eventually relocating to the East Coast, Shellshag gained a local following due to its bare bones but blistering live shows. Drummer Jen Shag plays standing up, pounding on two snare drums and a tom, while Johnny "Shellhead" cranks out punk rock chord progressions, dissonant noise and feedback on his guitar. The duo has gained a reputation for frequently destroying its equipment onstage at the end of shows.
