Hailing from London, alternative metal and grunge rock band Japanese Voyeurs formed in 2007. Lead singer and guitarist Romily Alice writes all of the band's lyrics and her vocal performance gives the band its distinguishing characteristic. Each song is a roller coaster of vocals that start out with girlish giggles and then switches to angry growls, all while weaving through heavy post-grunge guitar riffs. Since its 2001 first EP Sicking & Creaming, Japanese Voyeurs have attempted to bring beauty and filth together, blending brutality with the human trappings and drives of sex and love. The band released its debut album, Yolk, in 2011, which is a meticulous examination of the darker side of desire and the masochism of dependency.
