Oakland based hip-hop artist Paulo Peacock operates under the alias Pep Love. Originally born in Mississippi, Pep Love moved to California with his parents while he was a teenager and was immediately drawn in by the hip-hop scene of the Bay Area. Oakland native and rapper Casual took notice of Pep Love's natural talent and featured the up-and-coming artist on his 1993 album, Fear Itself. After his recording debut, he co-founded the underground hip-hop collective Hieroglyphics, with artists Casual, Souls of Mischief, JayBiz, Del the Funky Homosapien and producer Domino. He recorded Hieroglyphics' first album, 3rd eye Vision in 1998, before releasing his anticipated debut solo album Ascension, in 2001. The success of both albums kept Pep Love busy, particularly in 2003, when Hieroglyphic released its second album Full Circle, only two months before he dropped his sophomore effort, Ascension Side C.
