Formed as one of the first projects of Solesides, the alternative hip-hop collective forged at the University of California Davis, Latyrx is comprised of rappers Lyrics Born and Lateef, who took their group name from a combination of their MC names. Dropping its first release in 1997, which featured production work by DJ Shadow, the duo received underground acclaim for the progressive rap styling and unique electronic-leaning production the album boasted. A few more releases followed, but Lyrics Born and Lateef increasingly began focusing on their solo careers respectively, though they still continued to collaborate on each others tracks occasionally. In 2007, the duo announced that Latyrx was working on a new album and the band would follow it with a few tour dates.
