The Stepkids was formed by three touring musicians who comprised the backing band for Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys and 50 Cent, and who all released solo albums, scored films and dabbled in commercial jingles. With such a diverse background, a diverse sound is inherent, and the trio certainly fulfills this expectation, melding psych, exotica, funk, soul and classical into a deeply nuanced form of neo-psychedelia. Evidently an experienced bunch, The Stepkids' live show demonstrates each musician's instrumental prowess and visible confidence on stage. The band's live performance is also unique, as it includes interesting light projections that are cast over the band members, clad in all white clothing to further allow the projections to blend them into the background of the stage.
