Formed in Bogota, Columbia in 1996, Alerta Kamarada creates Latin reggae that draws elements from Afro-beat and cumbia. Quickly becoming a mainstay in its home country, the loose collective--based around front-man Javier Fonseca--began working with native Columbian tribes based on San Andres Island to better understand its roots, and after incorporating what it learned into its music, the band soon gained attention from reggae musicians and fans around the world. In 2005, Alerta Kamarada was invited to play at the highly revered Sunsplash reggae festival in Jamaica, and since then has remained a prominent fixture on the world reggae scene.
