DJ Shadow (aka Joshua P. Davis) began his music career as a disc jockey for the University of California, Davis campus radio station KDVS. During his time at the radio station, he amassed a significant amount of eclectic records and began to delve into the esoteric world of music sampling. DJ Shadow's first full length release, 1996's Endtroducing..., was comprised entirely of sampled material from other albums. While it might seem unoriginal to take parts of other musicians work, DJ Shadow manipulates the sounds and pits samples against one another to create a myriad collection of tones that manage to complement one another.
