One of this festival's venues, Margaret Island (Margitsziget), or Rabbit Island as it is known by some locals, undergoes an amazing transformation from mid June to mid September every year. Gala concerts, operas, ballet performances, family programs and more are staged in the open air, including at the Városmajor Open Air Theatre, making this festival one of the highlights of the Budapest summer season. The idyllic atmosphere of both venues, the historic island and the tranquil park, make a perfect setting for the performances. The festival runs until around St. Stephen's Day, a public holiday that celebrates the coronation of Hungary's first king in the 11th Century.
