WHile any kind of major success in Argentinian club football is associated to the big five, Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield is one of the clubs that breaks that belief. Founded 1910, this is club has sent ripples through the whole football universe on several occasions. Winners of the Primera División on more than one occassion, the team was largely regarded as the league's underdogs, before it tightened its hold over the league in the 1990s. Its form would stretch beyond the boundaries of Argentina in 1994 when it won its first Copa Libertadores. Even though title wins have been sporadic since then, this is one team that opponents can never write off.
