For eleven days, starting in the third or so week in August, Edmonton has its own world-renowned fringe Theatre festival. The fringe theatre movement began in Edinburgh and quickly spread to Canada; Edmonton was the first festival to get under way in 1982 and is still the largest. Expect to see the new, the alternative, and the downright wacky at venues throughout Edmonton's Old Strathcona district; and, of course, there are plenty of beer tents.
