Death by Swimming Every year, perhaps drawing perverse inspiration from the same weekend’s Fête de l'Escalade celebrations, dozens of Genevois hurl themselves off the Jardin Anglais quay into the icy waters of Lake Geneva and emerge, hopefully, some 125 meters hence. Participants can at least take solace that the event no longer involves traversing open water! This event is over 70 years old and holds a special place on the city’s social calendar; visitors are welcome to participate, but far more likely to watch. Admission, not surprisingly, is free.
