L'Escalade is an annual festival in December celebrating the history of Geneva. The event commemorates the surprise defeat of troops sent by Charles Emmanuel I, Duke of Savoy on December 12th, 1602. Traditions include eating marzipan treats, smashing a chocolate cauldron and making vegetable soup; official activities include an annual run, a parade and a procession on Sunday including historic costumes. One of the liveliest holidays in Geneva! Check out the website for additional information.
