Ulcerate is a heavy metal outfit that is known for its brand of dark, technically-sharp death metal. Formed in 2000, the band was formed by guitarist Michael Hoggard and drummer Jamie Saint, who were looking to craft more dynamic, almost post-metal compositions that focus on atmosphere and mood rather than brash guitar riffage. Since releasing its debut album, Of Fracture and Failure, in 2007, and with every subsequent release including 2013's Vermis, Ulcerate has steadily risen as one of New Zealand's most acclaimed heavy metal bands.
