Béla Fleck is a banjo player from New York City who might best be known as the leader of the newgrass revival outfit Béla Fleck and the Flecktons. One of the more innovative and technically proficient banjo players, fleck was drawn to the banjo at a young age when he heard Earl Scruggs play the theme song for the television show Beverly Hillbillies. Releasing his debut album, Crossing the Tracks, in 1979, the LP's intelligent blend of Americana, bluegrass and jazz styles helped establish Fleck as a capable banjo player with a bright future ahead of him.
