The Krusenkoppel is a steep area opposite the Schleswig-Holstein government buildings. It owes its name to farmer Kruse, who sold this field to the city of Kiel in 1896, under the condition that it should not be parted and no building should be built on it for 100 years. That is why Kiel has this popular recreational area near the town center. At the bottom of Krusenkoppel, an open-air stage for events during Kieler Woche was built after World War II. The stage was thoroughly rebuilt in 1989/90 and seats up to 2000 people. From May-Sep, up to nine interesting events like concerts and plays take place here. Due to complaints from the residents of the surrounding houses, unfortunately no more events then this are allowed . Please see local papers for programme details.
