Built in 1901 and used primarily as a venue for vaudeville, Stratford Shakespeare Festival's Avon Theatre surrounds its proscenium stage with a modernist design that, over the years, has gone through several rounds of renovations. The Stratford Shakespeare Festival itself has been one of the premiere theater festivals in North America for over half a century with crowds from across the globe flocking to see some of the stage's most talented actors in performances of not only the Shakespeare works that give the festival it's name, but of a diverse array of modern and classical works as well.
