Found to the eastern part of Cambridge city, The Leper Chapel is located on Newmarket Road. Also called Leper Chapel of St. Mary Magdalene, it dates back to the year 1125. Originally, the chapel belonged to a leprosy hospital. Though the chapel was heavily redesigned in the 13th Century, sections of the right wall are from the original structure and it remains a fine example of Romanesque architectural style. Each year, the chapel building turns into a thriving venue for a wide range of events. The legendary European festival, Stourbridge Fair, is recreated wonderfully at the chapel. Additionally, a host of theater, music and art events are held here.
