Germany's oldest open air museum, Cloppenburg Museum Village is a well-developed educational and research location which specializes in rural and cultural history. Cloppenburg Museum Village was established in the year 1934 by Heinrich Ottenjann, a senior schoolmaster in Cloppenburg. This open-air museum supports various research activities related to the agricultural and cultural history of this region. The museum village also depicts how rural life has evolved in this region, right from the 16th Century till today. Nearly 50 ancient structures, along with rural gardens and neighboring agricultural expanses narrate the ties of people with the environment of Lower Saxony over the years.
