Plaza del Obradoiro, s/n, Santiago de Compostela, 15703
This grand neoclassical palace was built in the French style in the eighteenth century, by the archbishop of the same name. It features a pediment that represents the Battle of Clavijo, with Santiago in his facet of warrior of Christianity. This figure also crowns the facade. This building currently houses the City Hall, the Consello da Cultura Galega (Galician Cultural Council) and the Presidency of the Xunta de Galicia (Galician regional government). Its original function was quite different, as a seminary for confessors and a school for the boys in the Cathedral choir. Pilgrims who encounter rain as they pass through this square often take refuge under its broad arcade.
