Located just off Benagil Beach in the coastal Algarve region of Portugal are beautiful and almost unearthly sea caves. Sometimes called grottoes, these Miocene limestone caves were worn away over time by pummeling Atlantic waves. One particularly spacious natural enclosure found immediately to the left of the beach is even considered by many to be the most beautiful cave in the world. These karst wonders are only accessible by boat, however, high tides can affect the sightseeing tours rendering the alcoves flooded with sea water.
