Dutch singer-songwriter Tim Knol is interested less in the roots of Dutch music as he is in the roots of American music. Singing almost exclusively in English, Knol's lyrics follow popular American roots themes like individual freedom, unrequited love and hedonism. Knol updates the American roots standards with particularly pop-oriented choruses and fewer solo guitar ballads. Knol's self-titled debut album was released in 2010 along with the single "When I Am King," a song that imagines Knol's child-like fantasies of becoming a king and the grand plans he has for when that day comes.
