Jack DeJohnette is a jazz pianist and drummer from Chicago who is recognized as a key figure in the fusion era of jazz. After getting his start playing R&B, hard bop and avant-garde jazz in various outfits, he moved to New York City and developed a reputation as one of the genre's preeminent figures. He joined Miles Davis' live band in 1969, and while collaborating with and learning from the jazz legend, DeJohnette made time to record his first solo album, The DeJohnette Complex. The record was released with Milestone Records in 1969, marking the beginning of DeJohnette's success career as a bandleader.
