Alpines is an indie pop duo from London that performs a peculiar brand of melancholic music the two songwriters like to call "night pop." Comprised of Catherine Pockson on vocals and Bob Matthews on keyboards, Alpines came together out of a genuine interest on the part of both members to contribute something new to an already overly saturated British indie pop scene. The duo tends to draw from trip hop in order to create a certain ambiance for their songs, which are then infused with a wide array of dub-step beats in order to add a certain pop sensibility to the music's dangerously dismal undertones. So far, the Alpines' music tends to gravitate between the sublime and the pretentious in the minds of audiences and critics, however, even the most discerning listener realizes that the greatest art often tends to be the most ostentatious.
