When Doug Shaw, most notable as bassist for the band Gang Gang Dance, moved to New York from London at 19 years old, the only thing of value that accompanied the young musician was his acoustic guitar. After kicking around the city, busking and playing with different musicians--honing his unique fingerplucking style--Shaw and fellow musician, Mira Billotte, most notable for her work with White Magic, took a trip to a small island off the coast of Trinidad in 2008. The strong influence of island life off the cost of South America infiltrated the musical outlook of both Shaw and Billotte. The two started writing songs that paid homage to the carefree lifestyle and also to the respected lineage of indie rock bands from New York. After recording a bit of material, whilst on the island, the two liked the music they created so much that they decided to carry on with their project when they returned stateside.
