Similar to The Beatles and other British groups at the time, The Searchers began playing skiffle music in the late-1950s before progressing to embody the sounds of 1960s pop and the British Invasion. The Liverpool-based group was formed in 1957 by guitarist and singer John McNally, who pieced together a cast of like-minded musicians to help flesh out the jangly love songs and early rock and roll songs he'd been writing. Hit singles such as "Don't Throw Your Love Away" and "Needles and Pins" helped The Searchers make a name for itself in the crowded early-1960s music scene in England by incorporating tinges of American R&B and country music. Though the band has gone through some lineup changes--which is to be expected after 50 plus years--McNally continues to tour the world, performing the music of The Searchers to nostalgic and appreciative audiences.
