Since 1992 Payable on Death, abbreviated as P.O.D., has made a progressive brand of metal. The San Diego-based band started playing Metallica and Slayer cover songs as Eschatos but eventually became known as P.O.D. as vocalist Sonny Sandoval converted to Christianity. Using rap and heavy metal influences to create its Christian metal music, the band released its debut album Snuff the Punk in 1994. As the band continued to make music, it consistently centered its material around Christian themes while evolving its sound into a nu-metal style with reggae and alternative rock flavors. The band released its eighth studio album, Murdered Love in 2012.
