Initially gaining prominence in the 1960s as the bassist of James Brown's backing band, Bootsy Collins eventually clashed with Brown, as many of his other band members were known to do, and moved back to his native Cincinnati, Ohio to form the funk band House Guests with his brother. This led to a move to Detroit and an introduction to George Clinton, who asked both Bootsy and his brother to join his funk collective Parliament-Funkadelic, which eventually amicably split to form a separate touring group on P-Funk's label, Bootsy's Rubber Band. He went on to record several solo albums to much acclaim, as well as work with prominent musicians like Talking Heads and Fatboy Slim. In 1997, Bootsy Collins, along with the 15 other members of P-Funk, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but this didn't push the renowned bassist into retirement; Bootsy Collins still tours and releases new music today.
