Practically synonymous with power pop and new wave, The Cars were one of the most successful rock bands of the late-1970s and 1980s. The group's charm lies in its ability to combine timeless melodies, guitar-driven rock and synthesizer work into memorable pop songs that have stood the test of time. Tracks from the Boston-originated band's 1978 debut album, such as "Just What I Needed," "Good Times Roll" and "My Best Friend's Girl," are now immortalized in the pop rock canon, still heard today on the radio, in movies and on television. Throughout the 1980s, The Cars continued to hone in on what would become the classic template of power pop, selling out arenas and stadiums in the process. The band went on hiatus in 1988, but recently reformed in 2010 to release a new album and tour for the first time in two decades.
